Bayer CropScience grants seed rights to Monsanto

Bayer CropScience has reached an agreement to grant Monsanto the rights to commercialize a seed treatment that protects against insects and nematodes.
Poncho/VOTiVO combines two Bayer CropScience products. In addition to an insecticide that protects against early season pests, the product contains bacteria that live and grow with young corn roots protecting against nematodes that feed on corn.
Under the agreement, Monsanto (NYSE: MON) has exclusive rights to commercialize Bayer CropScience’s Poncho/VOTiVo seed treatment under its corn brand Dekalb, the Channel brand and regional brands. Monsanto may also license the product through its licensing business, which serves more than 180 corn seed companies throughout the United States and Canada. No financial details of the agreement were disclosed.
Bayer CropScience, a subsidiary of German company Bayer AG (OTC: BAYRY), has its North American headquarters in Research Triangle Park, where the company employs about 500.
